The earliest Admiralty survey of Hong Kong harbour was carried out in 1841; this panorama was commissioned as a companion, drawn by Lieutenant (later Admiral) Leopold Heath in 1846 and published in 1847. Taken from a vantage point aboard HMS Iris anchored centrally in the harbour they combine to form a 360-degree panorama of the harbour, one of the very earliest (and among the most important) delineations of the town and harbour.
