These include Dr Souby's account on preserving the health of pilgrims, illustrated with some of the earliest photographs of Mecca after Sadiq Bey; an account of an Ottoman pilgrimage to Mecca in c.1716 to invoke divine assistance in the war with Austria; Maltzan's account of his travels to Mecca in 1860 in disguise; a detailed account of the 1902 Hajj; Rif'at Pasha's profusely illustrated account of the Hajj; photographs of pilgrims and the Mahmal; and a 'Guide to the Hajj' published early in the reign of King Abdulaziz ibn Saud.
