A GOOD COLLECTION OF RARE BOOKS AND PHOTOGRAPHS, DOCUMENTING AND ILLUSTRATING THE HAJJ. These include Dr Souby's account on preserving the health of pilgrims, illustrated with some of the earliest photographs of Mecca after Sadiq Bey; an account of an Ottoman pilgrimage to Mecca in c.1716 to invoke divine assistance in the war with Austria; Maltzan's account of his travels to Mecca in 1860 in disguise; a detailed account of the 1902 Hajj; Rif'at Pasha's profusely illustrated account of the Hajj; photographs of pilgrims and the Mahmal; and a 'Guide to the Hajj' published early in the reign of King Abdulaziz ibn Saud.
