Catalogue Note

From 1846 to 1848 Guillain explored the East African coast from Zanzibar to Mogadishu. The plates depict settlements, the inhabitants, sailing dhows, etc. and are the best of the period, giving prominence also to the Omani possessions there. There were three octavo volumes of text published to accompany this atlas.
