Catalogue Note

Rare German news-sheet depiction of the Christian armada assembled to confront the Turkish threat in the eastern Mediterranean in 1571. Jenichen, who signed the engraving with his monogram 'BI', was the leading German publisher of pictorial news-sheets but, because of their ephemeral nature, all are now rare.
