Condition

Overall in very good condition. The shade with numerous hairline cracks dispersed throughout, most quite small and minor, all appearing stable. The latter is expected given the vast number of individual glass tiles required to execute this large and complex shade design. The shade leading is beautifully rendered and displays a particularly rich russet brown and green patina. The shade shows an elegant color transition in the laburnum blossoms from cadmium yellow to softer yellow to rich orange tones, complemented by richly saturated cobalt blue accents throughout the background passages. The patinated bronze surfaces of the base display a rich and deep russet brown and green patina. The bronze surfaces throughout with some occasional light surface scratches and abrasions, all consistent with age and gentle handling. The top surface of the base with minor enhancements to the patina, recently executed by a professional conservator to minimize the appearance of isolated water spots. All of the sockets and paddle switches appear quite old but not original to the lamp. With a replaced “Pig tail” finial with gentle surface wear, presenting with a complementary patina to the base. A beautiful example of Tiffany’s iconic Laburnum model, displaying a highly artistic and thoughtful glass selection. When viewing this lamp firsthand, the colors are more varied and nuanced than seen in the catalogue illustrations which do not capture the full radiance and luminosity of the glass. -----
