Condition

Colour: The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate, although the white is brighter in the original. Condition: This work is in very good condition. Very close inspection reveals four faint and unobtrusive rub marks, one 10 centimetres in and 40 centimetres up from the bottom left corner, one towards the right edge approximately 30 centimetres from the top right corner, one to the right edge approximately 15 centimetres up from the bottom right corner and one to the extreme right edge approximately 7 centimetres up from the bottom right corner. There is a short and unobtrusive hairline crack to the bottom right of the right vertical protrusion. No restoration is apparent when examined under ultra-violet light.
"In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective, qualified opinion. NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF BUSINESS PRINTED IN THE SALE CATALOGUE."

Catalogue Note

"I no longer saw the canvas as a place of representation, but as more of a means unto itself for creating the work: there was an interest in materials rather than in a particular subject matter.” Agostino Bonalumi quoted in: Exhibition Catalogue, London, Robilant + Voena, Bonalumi. All the Shapes of Space 1958 – 1976, 2013, p. 189.
