Description

  • PORCELAIN
  • 18cm., 7 1/4 in. high
painted in the manner of J. G. Heintze, with a continuous ruin landscape, groups of peasants beside a river, an equestrian figure stopping to enquire with a group gathered beneath a sign with an illegible nine-line inscription, ending with the Royal monogram and crossed swords of Augustus III, the handle with a trail of Kakiemon flowers, the mounts with shell thumbpiece and enclosing a coin of 1650 encircled by the inscription 'Judita Margreta R/ Jens Tostensen',

Provenance

A note with the piece records its sale at auction at Galerie Helbing in Munich on 23rd January 1917, and its provenance from dealer Moritz Seligman of Koln-am-Rhein

Condition

Some wear to the gilding around the rim and where the cover rests, but otherwise in good condition with very minor wear to the gilt borders.
