Catalogue Note
This exquisitely carved console table decorated with flowers, leaves and rocaille should be studied in relation to the previous lot which is similarly decorated and was most probably conceived en suite.
The naturalistic elements such as oak leaves, acorns, flowers and trees are a peculiar feature of Roman furniture since the 17th century. Whilst Roman console tables are generally known for their bold sculptural carving and very strong design, this lighter and more fanciful example is a rare survivor of the full blown Roman rococo production of the mid 18th century.
For further information see the footnote to the previous lot.
