Condition

Very good condition overall with very minor surface dirt and minor wear to the patina consistent with age and handling. The trunk and Apollino's proper left forearm are cast separately with a joint and two plugs visible above his elbow, another one to his proper left heel. Some wear to the black paint of the ebonised base and chips to its edges.

Catalogue Note

Le modèle Antique, également appelé Apollon Médicis, est signalé pour la première fois à Rome, à la Villa Médicis, en 1704. Dès 1684, le sculpteur Frémery en aurait fait une copie, dont nous avons aujourd'hui perdu trace, à la demande de l'Académie de France à Rome. Vers 1770, le marbre fut transféré à Florence pour être placé l'année suivante dans la Tribune.
