Condition

Under UV light, a large restorated tear appears from the lady's hair (about 24cm on the left). A certain number of filled cracks are visible. A few repaints scattered are visible in the backgrounds. Minor retouches are visible on the dress. A few scattered cracks are also visible.

Catalogue Note

Elève de William Bouguereau, Delobbe débute au Salon de 1861 et il y expose régulièrement des portraits, des scènes de genre et des paysages animés. Les sujets féminins, peints dans une technique précise et porcelainée inspirée de son maître, sont fréquents dans son oeuvre. La vente Collins-Naylor les 1er et 2 février 1905, présente un tableau de sujet identique, La jeune mère, peut-être notre tableau.
