Condition

Relined. Under UV light, an old tear is visible in the backgrounds in the lower right, between the feet and the reed. Small repaints scattered in the backgrounds are visible, especially in the lower left. Retouches are visible alongside the frame; repaints on the right foot. A certain number of cracks are filles in the backgrounds. On the body, a certain number of retouches are visible : on the right leg in the lower part, on the knee, the pubis. A minor repaint is visible on the belly and on the drapery.

Exposée au Salon de 1884, cette gracieuse Aurore s’élève dans les airs pour annoncer l’arrivée des lueurs matinales. Les sinueuses figures féminines, souvent inspirées de la mythologie grecque ou romaine, sont très fréquentes dans l’œuvre de l’artiste, qui a parfois délaissé l’iconographie ou les attributs spécifiques pour se concentrer sur la beauté et la sensualité du sujet. L'artiste a admirablement rendu la blancheur laiteuse de la peau et la blondeur des cheveux d'Aurore, baignant dans la lumière matinale.
