Catalogue Note
Raja Ajmat Dev of Mankot (b. circa 1700, r. circa 1730-circa 1760-65) appears in this drawing as a youth smoking a hookah. Little is known about this raja, but according to Archer, the apparent prominence given to him from an early age may denote his having taken over the administration of Mankot from his father, Raja Tedhi Singh, on the latter's retirement to pursue a life of piety (Archer 1973, vol.I, p.369).
