finely carved, the upper section with a frontal five-clawed dragon and 'flaming pearl' amidst swirling clouds, the sides of the lower bulb with striding dragons contesting a central 'flaming pearl' flanking an ovoid reserve incised with a twenty- eight character imperial poem Jinsitao, the flat gilt metal back with an aperture for hanging

Provenance

Collection of Mr. James Byrne (1857-1942), New York, acquired early 1900s, and thence by descent.

Condition

The wall vase is lacking its central inset plaque. The inscribed, recessed area has several small cracks and is covered in a residual wash. The lacquer is in overall good condition with scattered nicks and some chips and losses along the edges, particularly the mouth rim and base. The gilt metal with expected wear and small nicks.
