By repute acquired from the studio of Zeng Longshen in 1964.
Condition
From left to right in the catalogue illustration. First, in good condition. Second, there is a chip approximately 1/4 in. (0.6 cm) to the base done during making, which is painted over and fired. Third, there is a small chip with an associated hairline crack to one ear. Fourth, there is a small chip that has been painted in to one cheek. Fifth, there is a small chip to one ear. Sixth, there is a small chip to the base.

Catalogue Note
Zeng Longsheng (1901-1964) was a celebrated potter at the Jingdezhen kilns who specialized in figural sculptures. A complete set of the Eighteen Luohan by Zeng Longsheng can be found in the collection of the University Museum and Art Gallery, The University of Hong Kong. The set was donated to the museum by Sir Kenneth Ping-fan Fung. A bust entitled "Laughing Peasant" in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London was gifted by Simon Kwan whose collection includes several pieces, including heads similar to the present examples, attributed to the famous Jingdezhen artist.
