Description
- ceramics
the first group with a bat inside the box, supported on a rockwork base, with three seals reading Dehua and Xu Yunlin zhi; the second group supported on lotus leaves and blossoms floating on waves, the back impressed with two seals reading Dehua and boji yuren (2)
Condition
Both groups have the expected firing cracks. In addition, the group on the left of the catalogue photo has overpaint covering the top and back of the standing figure's head, the nose, the banana leaf, and back of the shoulders. The overpainting continues across the standing figure's left leg, the top of the base, over the box containing the bat and onto the seated figure's feet. It is difficult to ascertain the exact extant of the repairs.
The group on the right has the standing figure reattached at the knees, and there is overpainting to the hands, banana leaf, the back of the head and shoulders. The banana leaf appears to have broken into several pieces, but because of the overpainting, it is difficult to ascertain.
