Condition

Original canvas. There is a light layer of surface dirt throughout. There are holes along the tacking edges. The canvas has worn through to the stretcher in places in places along the bottom edge. There is a fine web of craquelure, most notably in the white of the sitter's shirt. Examination under UV light reveals a couple of very minor areas of retouching, one to the sitter's left eye and another to the left of his cap. Held in a gold coloured wooden frame. Unexamined out of frame.
