Catalogue Note

In the early 1920s Goncharova produced puppet designs for Julie Sazonova's Théâtre des petits comédiens de bois. These designs were for the 1924 production Karagöz, a play based on traditional Turkish shadow puppets which was staged over Christmas of 1924. Lot 274 comprises four studies for the puppets themselves and lots 271-273 and 274-275 are illustrations for the programme to the performance which Goncharova also designed.
