The Ballets Russes de Monte Carlo production of Bogatyrs premiered at the Metropolitan Opera in New York in October 1938. The story is based on the legends of Vladimir the Great, including the epic battles between the Bogatyrs and Tartars. It was set to music by Alexander Borodin and choreographed by Léonide Massine.
