Catalogue Note

Makovsky's children appear frequently in his watercolours.  His daughters Olga and Marina were born to Maria Matavtina in 1893 and 1896 respectively, dating the present family scene to around 1900. The translucent qualities of the sitters’ dresses and Makovsky’s attention to reflected light are particularly lovely.
