Acquired directly from the artist by the great-grandfather of the present owner in 1907
Condition
The canvas is original, there is slight buckling in the corners. Stretcher bar marks are visible at the edges and through the centre. There is vertical craquelure throughout the composition. The varnish has discoloured and there is a layer of surface dirt. Some staining is present near the middle of the right hand edge. There are minor frame abrasions at the edges with corresponding minor paint loss. Examination under UV light reveals minor spots of retouching in places at the edges and at the foot of the tree to the left of the signature. Held in gold painted wooden frame. Unexamined out of frame.
