Condition

The sheet has been laid on plywood. There are creases throughout the composition. There are surface scratches and flecks of paint loss in places. There are water stains in places. There is a light layer of surface dirt. Held in a simple wooden frame behind glass. Unexamined out of frame.

Catalogue Note

Amshey Nurenberg was a Ukrainian born avant-garde artist, critic and author. In the 1910s he shared a studio with Marc Chagall in Paris before returning to Odessa after the Revolution. In Moscow in the 1920s he was the art correspondent at Pravda, taught at VKhUTEMAS and worked with Vladimir Mayakovsky at the State News Agency.

The present lot is a study for the painting of the same title in the collection of the State Tretyakov Gallery.
