Catalogue Note
In the 1920s Mashkov spent a lot of time with the family of his wife Maria Ivanovna Danilova. The majority of his portraits of Maria and her relatives were executed in 1922-23. The sitter of the present portrait is Ekaterina, one of Maria’s sisters, who was married to the famous collector Semyon Mironavich Kogan.
