the cylindrical body with two bands of chased and repoussé blossoms in varicolor gold and platinum between bands of opaque black enamel, these relieving the surface enameled in ice blue over a wavy engine-turned ground, the pencil separating at the upper band to reveal finely reeded red gold cylinder and a miniature pencil, with suspension loops, struck with workmaster's initials and 72 standard on the red gold cylinder, also struck Faberge in Latin letters, 72 standard on the suspension loops, with scratched inventory number 23748 on the upper rim

Paul Jacovlev, Esq., purchased this pencil on 19 December 1916 at the London branch for £8. We are grateful to Svetlana Chestnykh for assistance in cataloguing this lot
Condition
Charming form and colors, the interior recently oiled to ease movement, the uppermost guilloché band with two pinpoint losses of enamel and a slightly larger area that has been inexpertly repaired, much of the upper band apparently coated during restoration (visible under black light), also with small pinpoint losses near the pencil opening
