depicting the Mother of God and the Christ Child in an embrace, the child holding a scroll, the gilded silver oklad chased and repoussé with scrolling blossoms along the border, apparently lacking maker's marks, with initials of assaymaster Spiridon Rukavishnikov, Kazan, 1763
Condition
The cover very fine quality; the icon on panel possibly painted after 1917 as a replacement for an earlier panel. The pigments have not been tested. The icon with some areas of restoration and one area of loss to upper right border, apparently from one of the nails securing the cover; the cover with some wear and splitting consistent with age.
