Catalogue Note

Danko based this design on a 19th century Russian porcelain sculpture of a young peasant girl asleep among wheat sheaves, a model which she updated with contemporary clothing and the scythe, transforming it into a 'revolutionary' subject. On this design, see T. Nosovich, I. Popova, Gosudarstvennyi farforovyi zavod, 1904-1944, St. Petersburg, 2005, pp. 356-357.
