Catalogue Note

The term 'Mohtashem' derives from the renowned maker Kajji Mullah Muhammad Hassan Mohtashem. Few of his signed works are recorded, but the name is attributed to fine works of a similar calibre with velvety 'kurk' wool and luminous dyes. See also Lot 92, 109 and 114 in this sale. For full discussion of Mohtashem works see Azadi, S., 'The Mark of Mohtashem', Hali, 160, 2009, pp. 66-73.
