Catalogue Note
Whilst carpets have been woven in Tabriz for hundreds of years, in the late 19th and early 20th century classical Persian carpet designs were revived and rescaled for export; the Tabriz weavers successfully adapted 16th and 17th century designs such as the Kerman 'vase' design seen in this example.
