Description
- Heriz carpet
- silk pile
- approximately 395 by 277cm; 12ft. 11in., 9ft. 1in.
Condition
Overall measurements: 269cm across the top, 277cm across the bottom, 391cm along left side, 395cm along right side
Generally even 2mm pile overall, with minute areas of wear to the edges of the madder ground of the main field. There are some small surface spot marks for example bottom left outer guard and areas of border including left side and bottom right side. Minor oxidisation to areas of taupe colour for example to the inner border of the top right corner. Knotted fringes at both ends. Losses to bottom right corner only to fringing, needs some attention before corner of carpet is affected. Left side with herringbone tape on the reverse along the whole length, original side cords both sides.
Lower right hand spandrel with tuck across spandrel and field, pattern slightly discontinuous, tuck possibly extends up between field and border - weaving in this area has quite a lot of curved wefts so this may have been done to make the carpet lie flatter.
Beautiful drawing and balance to composition overall, balanced colour and good size. With some charming motifs including birds and wild animals.
