Condition

This print, on heavy paper with a semi-glossy surface, is in generally excellent condition. This open print has an impressive level of detail, especially in the lower portion of the image. In high raking light, 2 very soft impressions are barely visible in the upper left quadrant. The margin is very faintly sunned around the image. There are a few tiny deposits of indeterminate nature in the margins. The margin corners are bumped, and the lower left margin corner is slightly creased. On the reverse, there are 2 hinge remnants along the upper edge, and some abrasions in the same areas. The Robert Frank Archive stamp is annotated 'Americans 35,' 'Car Accident - US 66 between Winslow and Flagstaff, Arizona,' and '415' in an unidentified hand in pencil. Other notations are '24' (circled) and '1100' in pencil, and '24' (circled) in ink. It is believed that only 8 prints of this image, including the present print, have previously been offered at auction.
