  • bamboo (bambuseae)
comprising: one seal of square section, surmounted by a cluster of intertwining bamboo roots extending upwards sinuously, one side of the seal dated to the jiazi year of the Qianlong reign (1744) and a seal carved in the form of a bamboo culm, inscribed on one side with Si Gongtu's poem Dian Ya

Catalogue Note

The texture of the bamboo-root seal illustrated on the left, and its pronounced angular shape is closely related to that on an Imperial bamboo seal carved to record the Qianlong Emperor's appreciation of the Yuanmingyuan, sold in these rooms, 9th October 2007, lot 333.
