Condition
LANDSEER:
Pen and ink and brown wash on laid paper. Sheet watermarked with a trellis motif down the center of the sheet. The sheet has toning and surface dirt. Minor rippling. A repaired horizontal tear along the right edge, above the top of the carriage at far right. There is a small loss in the carriage at the wheel; the area of the sheet that is missing is actually adhered to the backing board.
EUROPEAN SCHOOL:
The edges have been adhered to a mat, though the verso of the sheet is still exposed. Surface dirt. There is a previous repair to the lower left corner of the sheet. In overall good condition and ready to hang. 5 by 7 1/4 in.

The Landseer was from a sketch book completed between 1833 and 1841 at Glenquoich, the hunting lodge of Edward Ellice near Glengarry.
