SMITH:
Not examined out of the frame. There is rippling to the sheet. Minor light stain and toning. Surface dirt and some minor staining tot he front of the sitters jacket (lower right). A potential pinprick or paper weakness in the background in front of the sitters chest. In overall good condition.
ENGLISH SCHOOL:
5 by 4 1/4 in., oval, with uneven edges
Not examined out of the frame. The oval is uneven, likely cut by hand. It is probable that the original sheet has been laid down onto the white backing. There is rippling to the sheet. Minor craquelure in the black of the sitter's coat. In overall good condition and ready to hang.
