Catalogue Note

John Dryden (1631-1700) the Restoration poet, critic, and playwright who was made Poet Laureate in 1668 was probably the most important literary figure of his era.

George Vertue (1684-1756) was an artist, engraver and antiquary.  He was a member of Kneller's London Academy of Painting, where he engraved portraits.
