Catalogue Note

This well-carved and tender depiction of Virgin and Child is very closely related to a statuette in the style of Nicolaas Vander Veken, sold Sotheby’s London, 12th December 1991. For similar works by Nicolaas Vander Veken, see J. Vanderbrugge, "Een Pieta van de Mechelse beeldsnijder Nicolaas Vander Veken (1637-1709)" in Antiek, May 1983, pp. 529-530 and M.
