Catalogue Note

Charles Lamb's annotated copy of Suckling's Fragmenta Aurea, a book noted for its allusions to Shakespeare.  The annotations clearly reflect Lamb's interest in the influence of Shakespeare on Suckling. Henry Crabb Robinson described Lamb's library as "the finest collection of shabby books I ever saw."  It is easy to picture the present volume in such a library.
