Royal folio (17 3/8 x 11 1/4 in.; 440 x 285 mm). Title within engraved architectural border by D. Loggan, title and margins ruled in red, woodcut head- and tailpieces; some light marginal soiling. Contemporary red morocco, gilt-tooled in a double border of single- and double-fillets, similar central panel frame surrounded by a gilt roll-tool of small flowers and leafy scrolls found on bindings by the Mearne shop (compare Nixon no. 12), spine richly gilt, edges gilt; extremities rubbed, joints mended, remains of silk ties pasted to pastedowns.

Catalogue Note
First edition as ultimately adopted by the Church of England, large-paper copy, with line 6 on leaf 2e6r ending in "God" and with cupid's-head tailpiece. Several hundred changes were made from the earlier versions of 1561 and 1604, ranging from a single word to the substitution of the Authorized Version of 1611 for the Great Bible of 1540 for all passages of scripture save the Psalms.
