Asking permission of an unnamed committee "to be absent upone special occasions," pointing out the urgent need to remove a house that "will obstruct the farther progresse of the worke" and recommending providing an advance of £500 to workmen, one page, folio [first two decades of the eighteenth century]; sunned, browning, damage to paper from ink acidity with small holes neatly repaired. Red morocco-backed folder.

Catalogue Note

A rare letter between two of the greatest architects of their age. Vanburgh worked with Wren in a number of capacities in the first two decades of the eighteenth century, including for both the Royal Works, the Fifty New Churches Commission, and the Commission for building Greenwich Hospital.
