Together two works in four volumes, 4to (11 1/2 x 8 5/8 in.; 292 x 220 mm).
Letters: two frontispiece portraits (volume 1), errata leaf (volume 2), scattered pencil markings and a few notes on margins of volume 2, spotting and foxing, a few leaves slightly short. Miscellaneous Works: eight engraved medallion portraits in volume 1, some marginal tears, spotting, foxing and offsetting. 

Uniformly bound in contemporary red morocco, elaborate gilt rolls on panels, spines with gilt elaborated tooling, green morocco lettering pieces. Spines slightly faded, joints fragile, some bumps and rubbing.

Catalogue Note

Rare in contemporary morocco binding. From the library of General Sir John Irwine, Knight of the Bath and Commander-in-Chief in Ireland. Irwine was a friend of Chesterfield. Eleven letters by Chesterfield to Irwine are published in Chesterfield's Miscellaneous Works (volume 2, pp.553-67).
