Two volumes, folio (381 x 242 mm), engraved throughout, elaborate title-border and engraved title to volume 2 by Bickham after Gravelot, tables to each volume, 200 plates by Bickham, some after Gravelot and Watteau, comprising music with illustrations, some by Purcell and Handel; Volume 1: some wear to title, repair to leading edge of second leaf; Volume 2: tears to plates 28 & 66 repaired, without the list of subscribers; a few stains (e.g., volume 2, plate 82). Fine Harleian-style binding, contemporary red morocco elaborately gilt with wide borders and central lozenges with flowers, strawberry plants etc, spines in compartments, with titles and volume numbers; some wear to extremities.

Catalogue Note

This is the second issue according to BUC, with the composer on plate 14 in volume 2 named as Porpora and not Handel, etc.  The plates feature songs and arias, including four each by Purcell (e.g., volume 1, plate 61: "From Rosy Bow'rs") and Handel (volume 1, no 44: "Si caro, si ti stringo," from Admeto; and volume 2 plate 66, from Rodelinda, with new English words) with others adapted from or by Corelli, Pepusch, Festing, Leveridge and Lampe.
