  • ink, paper, leather
4to (7 x 5 ins.; 180 x 129 mm). Black letter, title within woodcut (McKerrow 161), woodcut intials; some light staining, lower corner D4 torn away, lacks signature **2 ("The Table"), inked shelf number in under title border. Nineteenth-century green straight-grain morocco, gilt.

Catalogue Note

First and only separate edition and the only known imprint by Webster (though the present was in fact printed by Thomas Dawson).  In 1587, when Higgins gathered the Marshe parts together, while adding his own tales, the present work was omitted from that edition. A rare work. One must go back to a copy sold in 1937 at Sotheby's London or even to the Hershel V. Jones sale, to find one comparable.
