8vo (6 x 4 in.; 152 x 102 mm). Engraved frontispiece portrait of Princess Anne of Denmark by P. Bouche, title within double-ruled border, dedication to Princess Anne; lacks initial blank, first few leaves lightly browned, short tear to outer margin of K2, occasional type offsetting. Contemporary black morocco, tooled to a modified cottage-roof pattern with tulip stems adorned with marguerites and leaves, sunflowers flanked by open drawer-handled tools at the top of the roof and bottom, spine in six compartments paneled gilt (one lettered), marbled endpapers, board edges and turn-ins roll-tooled, edges gilt.

Catalogue Note

An unrecorded edition in a fine Restoration binding, similar in style and tooling to that of the Small Carnation Binder (cf. Nixon, English Restoration Bindings, No. 91). Another edition was printed the previous year, with the imprint "Rotterdam, for the Author, 1694" wherein the dedicatory epistle to Lord Arundel (rather than to Princess Anne of Denmark as is the case here) is signed "J. Weldon."
