Contemporary calf; rebacked; offsetting on endpapers from turn-ins.

Catalogue Note
First edition, a catalogue of the nucleus of the present-day Ashmolean Museum. The younger Tradescant was a British naturalist, traveler, collector, and gardener. While in Virginia in 1637, he collected specimens for his father's museum in South Lambeth. From 1638 onward, he worked as gardener to Queen Henrietta Maria, and continued the further development of his father's museum. Their collections were turned over to the hands of the Ashmolean in 1674.
