Woodcut ornament between two rules on title-page, headpiece composed of printer's ornaments on first page of text, one woodcut initial; upper margin trimmed close to text. Modern sponged tan morocco, wraparound rules tooled in black terminating in drawer-handle and scallop tooled finials, plain endpapers.

Catalogue Note

First edition. Walker was an author, preacher and bookseller whose controversial anti-Episcopal views gained him such notoriety that many of his works were published anonymously. According to Taylor, with whom Walker became embroiled in a pamphlet exchange in 1642, Walker was an "ignoramus ironmonger and scandalous preacher," the author of "seditious and scandalous libels" that, sold by "his ragged regiment of tatterdemallions," flooded the London book market.
