8vo (7 1/4 x 4 5/8 in.; 185 x 118 mm). Engraved architectural title border, two settings of dedication to Prince James each with contents on verso, margins ruled in red, extra-illustrated with engraved portrait of King Charles II and ca. 130 full-page plates with captions by F. H. van Hove; occasional light marginal browning. Contemporary English red morocco elaborately gilt in a cottage-roof design with gilt-tooled scroll-work, clover, and flowers, spine gilt in compartments with alternating oval and thistle stamps, edges gilt and gauffered, possibly by Daniel Search, fore-edge painting of a heart within flowers inscribed "Search these Scriptures John V yeare 1705," later engraved pewter clasps and catches; head of spine chipped, extremities rubbed.

Condition
