Modern red quarter morocco.

First edition. One of the best period accounts of Elizabethan England, especially in the area of politics and constitutional law. "Smith offered a brief analysis of English society, and a fuller account of institutions and the legal system. He was able to draw upon his civil law training and experience of the continent to make comparisons to establish the distinctiveness of English institutions" (ONDB). Of great popularity, the work went through eleven editions in English to 1640.
