An indenture granting a twenty-one-year lease to a local farmer "Thomas Lewys alias Morrice of Penshurst" of fifteen acres of land "called over fetherhawes" in Penshurst parish, for an annual rent of £6 6s 6d, one parchment membrane (300 x 475 mm), with two pendant red wax seal impressions on parchment tags, later endorsement, 20 April 1616; light staining. Mounted and housed in a pale cloth folding-box.

Catalogue Note

A document signed by Philip Sidney's younger brother, who was himself a notable poet as well as being a successful courtier. This deed confirms the lease of a farm near Penshurst Place, the house granted to the Sidney family in 1552 and which remains their principal residence to this day.
