4to (8 1/2 x 6 1/8 in.; 215 x 155 mm). Woodcut title border (McKerrow & Ferguson 165), gothic type, margins ruled in red, woodcut headpieces and decorative initials. Contemporary London olive morocco, tooled in gilt with the royal arms of Charles I, the arms within a diamond-shaped panel filled with scrolls, leaves and volutes, enclosed by an outer rectangle of scrolls, leaves and volutes, and Prince of Wales' feathers at four corners, border of double rolls and multiple fillets, smooth gilt spine with longitudinal panel, edges gilt, blue silk ties, in a red half morocco drop-box; head and foot of spine mended, other small mends.

Catalogue Note
Handsome example of a Charles I binding, departing from the center- and corner-piece style conventionally of this period. The binding was presumably for chapel use, and is very similar to a copy of this New Testament in the Foyle sale (Christie's, 12 July 2000, lot 405).
