Folio (11 3/4 X 7 1/2 in.; 296 x 194 mm). Title within woodcut border (McKerrow & Ferguson 212), with the initial blank, woodcut headpieces and initials; leaves M3–4 remargined. Contemporary calf, the spine with five raised bands tooled in compartments with small gilt ornaments, the sides with large gilt arabesque centerpieces flanked by the initials HG, with two gilt line-borders, the inner border with acorn cornerpieces; spine repaired, ties lost.

The Evelyn-Garden copy, third edition—with, as the title states, “Sundry New Additions"—of one of the most popular and influential of the major Elizabethan poetic texts. C. S. Lewis describes it as “Shakespeare’s book, Charles I’s book, Milton’s book, Lamb’s book, our own book” (English Literature in the Sixteenth Century, 1954, 333).
