4to (8 3/8 x 6 5/8 in.; 214 x 168 mm). Woodcut headpiece; marginal soiling, some light dampstains, a few small spots. Contemporary black morocco, with diagonally bisecting gilt fillet, all-over gilt and silver decoration with drawer-handles, tulips, rosettes, and other tools within narrow tooled border, spine gilt in compartments, by Queen's Binder D; upper joint cracked with a few mends, corners rubbed.

First edition, variant with the final n in "Herringman" inverted, A2r last line has "Virtues," B1r line 5 has "Countrey." "The first real non-Shakespearean English opera" produced with music by Giovanni Draghi (Pforzheimer).
A binding of the same date using similar tools appears in Nixon (plate 77). The present binding appeared in the Burlington Fine Arts Club, Exhibition of Bookbindings in 1899 (catalogue no. 21).
