First and only separate editions of the first four works, second edition of the last. Quarles (1592–1644) was a popular royalist poet in the reign of James I, whose biblical verse paraphrases filled a need for pious light reading in the period. He is, perhaps, best known for his Emblemes (1635) and Enchiridion (1640).
